Response on behalf of the owner;
Thank you for providing your feedback following your stay at Mallards Cottage. With regard to the point you make about the Chequers and Lifeboat being good, but pricey, we cannot help but agree! Since we have had the cottage (14 years), we have seen prices in all of the quality pubs and eateries all along the coast (not just Thornham) creep up, such that we ourselves believe they are now on a par with London prices, or perhaps even higher. We have commented to pub managers that these price rises make it rather unaffordable for families to eat out, which is one of the pleasures of being on holiday in a different environment. That said, we still find Eric’s Fish Bar and the restaurant in the Yurt behind Drove Orchard fairly good value for money.
To take your point about the sofas in the cottage, I can only say that it is almost impossible to provide beds and sofas that will suit everybody – some guests will inevitably find them too soft/too low/too hard, especially given that we get guests of all ages and shapes visiting the cottage. Other guests have commented on the sofas being ideal for an afternoon nap as they are so comfy, so we accept that we cannot hope to “please all of the people all of the time”. We don’t, however, believe that sofas or mattresses last forever and we monitor these things on an ongoing basis and are prepared to replace when it becomes necessary.
