We are very sorry you were surprised to receive local duty charges on importation of your purchased goods.
May we reassure you that we do indeed notify our customers of possible local duty and taxes in the Terms and Conditions section. We also repeat this information on our Delivery Details page. It states: "If your order is being delivered outside the United Kingdom (UK) your delivery may attract local import duties and taxes, which you will be responsible for paying on receipt of your parcel. Duty and customs charges vary by country."
We dispatch to over 80 countries worldwide. Sadly we have no jurisdiction over each country's ever-changing taxation laws and cannot predict amounts likely to be charged. However, we can confirm that baby shawls have been dispatched from ourselves with zero VAT taxed as baby items do not attract value added tax in the UK. However, this does not mean the country of import has the same policies as ourselves.
On a positive note we are very pleased to hear you found ordering online with ourselves no problem, all worth noting.
