Glad you are enjoying your Eye Mask. You will pleased to know that this can occasionally be washed on a 30 degree delicate/silk cycle. So sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your purchase. Our Classic Eye Masks are made from Dupion Silk which is woven using varying thicknesses of yarn. Not only does this sometimes result in naturally occurring slubs but it is also what gives the Dupion it's characteristic textured look and feel. Regarding the velvet ties - the optimum position is to tie your bow just in the nape of the neck for maximum comfort and a secure hold. We hope this is of some help.
