Striking costume necklace evoking the Golden Phase of Austrian symbolist painter Gustav Klimt (1862 – 1918). Known for his use of shimmering gold backgrounds, Klimt’s most famous works include The Kiss (1908–09) and 'Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I' (1907). Klimt was inspired to use this medium after a journey to Italy in 1903 where he viewed the Byzantine mosaics in the Church of San Vitale. His shimmering backgrounds reflected the influence of the gilded tiles he saw. This necklace captures the glowing quality of his works which continue to resonate today as they did a century ago. Made exclusively for Museum Selection.
