It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! In our house we love to celebrate with friends and family by going full-on banquet. All the decorations, all the trimmings, and of course all our favourite wines.The six wines we'll be drinking on Christmas Day are unabashedly traditional, but isn't that what Christmas is all about?Which Wines go with Christmas Dinner?I always start with a bright, crisp fizz as an aperitif. Keep it traditional and get your guests in the mood with a bottle of Champagne. Paul Langier Champagne NV is a great crowd pleaser, the pop of the cork will let everyone know that the party has started!I'm serving a classic prawn cocktail to start with freshly cooked shell-on prawns. It's crying out for a white with enough acidity to cut through the fattiness of the prawns - Domaine Neveu "Les Longues Fins" Sancerre 2020 fits the bill perfectly, and guests will love the original and best expression of Sauvignon Blanc.The main event is more challenging, with all it's varied flavours - turkey, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, cranberry sauce, bread sauce - how do match such bold foodstuffs? To get it right you need wines that can withstand so many competing flavours. Mâconnais Chardonnay matured in oak has the structure and complexity to carry the show - Domaine de Rochebin Mâcon-Villages Blanc 2020 is a treat for all the white wine drinkers around the table.For red wine lovers, go for a bold Claret from Bordeaux. If there's any left after the main course, it will pair perfectly with hard, mature cheeses on the cheese board. Le Haut-Médoc de Haut-Bages Libéral Haut-Médoc 2015 is the second wine of this renowned 5th Grand Cru Classé estate in Pauillac, it's recognisable label will impress any wine connoisseurs at the table! I've also included a softer red from the other bank of the Gironde - Château Gachon Montagne-Saint-Émilion 2016 - giving something for all tastes.Finally, a half bottle of Château Les Mingets 2018 Sauternes will finish off the meal nicely.
