Hi Karon, thanks for your feedback. Our flagship powerchair comes in at 27kg, this is an average weight for a folding powerchair on the market. There are lighter options available, however these normally come in carbon fibre and are not only very expensive, but also less stable due to the lack of weight and the smaller wheels they use to save even more weight.
Regarding sliding off kerbs, please talk to us if you need more assistance with driving your powerchair. Please note that all folding powerchairs, whether our brand or others, take some getting used to as they do not drive like a traditional powerchair. They are designed to be light enough to fold and lift into a car, are rear wheel drive like a normal wheelchair with front castors. and as such, drive differently to a traditional 'everyday' powerchair that has about 100kg of weight under the seat to balance the chair strongly and more often than not a mid or front wheel drive setup that makes controlling the chair easier than a folding model.
There is always a compromise you make when choosing a chair, if you go for a 'proper' non-folding powerchair, it will of course offer more stability, whereas a folding chair will always compromise some stability in favour of portability. With good practice and following basic safety guidelines such as not descending/ascending kerbs at an angle, you can get around these challenges.
All the best,
