Hi Martin
We'd have been happy to change your crampons from our hire stock, if necessary? Our view is that crampons points are aggressively sharp, unnecessarily so, when they are bought new. Traditionally, even after sharpening, crampons were always "rounded-off" to prevent bending of the tips, which makes them quickly useless. Also, we have seen a lot of lower leg injuries by people stabbing themselves with their shop-bought crampon points and needing stitches to repair a ripped calf. Not good on a remote mountain. However, maybe your crampons, indeed, need to be replaced, which we would be happy to do, as promptly as we sent them to you originally.
Otherwise, I hope you have/ had a great trip to Elbrus, and I look forward to hearing about your climb as soon as you're home.
Best wishes,
Simon
