Thanks so much for taking the time to write to us. It is awesome that there was a good conclusion, however I am sorry the date issue wasn't flagged earlier online. Most owners would insist on a Saturday to Saturday slot in the high season, however this is only wholly convenient for holidays as that is the standard booking pattern. I only can rate the booking procedure since the stay in the villa we booked is in May 2015. so far so good.

When informed about the issues with flies and wasps, we had no response - absolute radio silence! Sorry but this is poor poor customer service.

What a beautiful property with potential to be five stars BUT alas our holiday was spoilt by countless flies and wasps in library bedroom. On arrival we noticed quite a few dead flies on the upper spiral stairs and my husband spent half an hour catching over 20 flies and removing outside, However there was no point - just couldn't keep up with the sheer numbers. To make matters worse, there were quite a few aggressive wasps which meant that we effectively couldn't use the whole top floor for our whole week stay. The upstairs turret bathroom also had loads of live and dead flies and wasps. I was afraid that my two young children would get stung and from a hygiene perspective I couldn't allow them to play upstairs. It also meant we were one bedroom and bathroom short the whole stay. Whilst I appreciate that due to unseasonably warm weather there could have been more flies around, the numbers involved here were unacceptable, especially with children around. Spraying the windows with fly killer just wasn't enough and as the housekeeper informed us, there were loads when she cleaned the gatehouse prior to our arrival and until they all hatched (nests in the window frames/beams) this was going to continue to be an ongoing problem. In all honesty it really spoilt my husband and my holiday as he ended up on the sofa and I ended up with the children in the downstairs bedroom. I just wish we had been told about this issue beforehand - it may not be an issue for some people but hygiene and safety are important to me due to the children. Also the underfloor heating wasn't working in the turret bedroom on 1st floor, The kitchen does need more plates/cutlery etc and there was a damp smell in some of the kitchen cupboards which needs to be resolved. However some positives - the housekeeper was a blessing, So friendly and always helpful when around - a big thanks to her for coming once to hoover up the dead flies, giving us extra towels, doing some laundry for me (which was a god send with 2 little boys) and for helping us light a fire -FINALLY!! Thank you S - we appreciated all your kindness.

I saw that you were in correspondence with William and I trusted that he would help you to resolve the issues with the help of Sasha. We’ve been working with Upton Gatehouse since 2012 and we have made 15 bookings for them in this time and we have never received any negative feedback until your own. I was disappointed and surprised to read of your issues when I came into the office in the morning and I can assure you I had every intention of sending you an e-mail later on that day. It is no excuse but we were a man down in the team last week and it was very, very busy. It was entirely my human error, please accept my sincere apologies. We will follow up all of your comments with the owner and we will organise a site visit in the near future to ensure that the factors you have raised do not continue to be an issue at the property. I hope that despite your comments you were still able to enjoy Upton Gatehouse and its surroundings, that you had a lovely time at the wedding and that you made great use of the additional free night that William offered to your family. As an apology for my lack of communication and for the issues encountered during your stay, we would like to offer you a 20% reduction on your next booking. I was disappointed to learn of a booking fee and a credit/debit card fee AFTER I had booked the holiday and not at the point of getting a quote for the holiday. It is of the utmost importance for you

Thanks very much for your feedback. I see that you placed your booking online, and I can confirm the booking fee was posted along with the rental rate. The credit card fee I am afraid is a reality - we did offer the possibility to pay via a bank transfer which would have incurred no cost. I can guarantee I am on the lookout for a more competitive merchant facility in terms of the rate provided I see you have booked a really beautiful chateau and I hope you and your family are looking forward to the holiday!
